Michigan LCV Partners with Environmental Groups to Launch Weekly "Hot List"

Hot List, Michigan

June 13th marked the first day that the Michigan legislature received their weekly environmental legislative update. Michigan LCV partnered with the Michigan Environmental Council, the West Michigan Environmental Action Council, the Sierra Club Michigan Chapter, the Ecology Center and Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council to deliver what will be known as the "The Hot List" to all state senators and representatives.

This weekly legislative update highlights the most pressing environmental legislation for the week with a quick summary, and the groups' opinion on whether or not we support or oppose the bill. For example, one House bill up for a vote is HB 4326: No Stricter Than Federal Regulations. Groups involved strongly oppose the passage of that bill and can urge legislators to vote no on a weekly basis.

"The Hot List" will be an important tool for the environmental community to develop and maintain because it demonstrates that environmental groups across the state are working together, coordinating our efforts, and building power for our issues.

"A more concerted community is a stronger one, and over time this tool will only further strengthen the ties between organizations, legislative offices, and build our collective power in the state to protect our environment and Great Lakes," said Ryan Werder, Political Director for Michigan LCV.
